Spring here - Pox, measles, mums there

Spring time issues - Pox, measles, mums, rashes

Hello and welcome back everyone. If it's winter can spring be far behind. And, Spring has finally set in - atleast in my part of the world. With Basanta-Utsav marking the onset of this most wonderful and colourful and eventful season of the year, Spring brings with it some concerns too.

So, it might be common for you to see some friends of yours in your classroom or dormitory or locality with rashes - of which some might be pus-filled. And, if you had never had such a painful event in your life, you might be cautioned by elders to keep distance - as this affects those who haven't had these yet. And, you are anxious - what if you contract such a trauma.

Well, today I am going to share with you a few interesting and helpful facts about these with you - both to help you take precaution and ward of stress out of any misconception. So, read on...

First of all - the major belief that these are events of childhood and will not occur to you because you have grown adult is a misconception. It can happen to anyone and for adults the intensity of the conditions are even worse.

You indeed need to keep distance from others to prevent spreading. However, there is no reason to flee away upon the sight of anyone who is suffering from the ailment. You will contract it only under two conditions - you aren't immune to it or hadn't had it even once or and the secretions in case or MUMs like sputum or saliva droplets or skin in case of pox manages to have a contact with you or enter you body. Else, you will not contract the disease.

A vegan diet is prescribed for the entire family to prevent anyone else from having the disease or making conditions worse for the person having it. Actually, if we feast on roasted turkey - it will pass through our own digestive system and will render no impact on the person afflicted. And, if vegetarian diet could have had prevented the spread of the disease - it could have prevented it's occurrence as well. And that would have meant - all the vegetarians in the world would have been immune to this disease- which unfortunately is not the reality. That apart myths also include worshipping the person who has the disease. Well, being a spiritual person myself - prayers and worship do connect well with me, until they are meant to connect you with the divine being - The Almighty. In many places however, esp. in Indian sub-towns and rural regions, to add to the trauma of the person suffering from the ailment, he or she is believed to be blessed by the divine. Thus, he or she is offered prayers and even expected to solve people's issues and give predictions. That apart, at times they are even expected to show some miracles - all of which merely adds to the stress factor.

Rest is the key medicine for all these diseases. The more you take rest, the faster you recuperate. Think it to be like a God granted holiday after your winter break. And, most important of all - do not panic or take stress of any sort. As, stress or panic can further aggravate the issue and delay the healing process.

It is believed and preached that you would have either of these atleast once in your lifetime. However, the reality is - a timely vaccination can prevent them from happening at all in your life. However, people with impaired immune system should not be vaccinated, and they must seek medical consultation about other available options suited to them.

Keep cool. Especially if you have pox - you will be all itchy - itchy with a strong urge to be scratchy - scratchy. But, you must not scratch - at all else your beautiful skin would be scarred which you will not wish for even in your worst nightmare. So, keep this tips handy:
  • Keep neem leaves with you and apply them whenever you feel itchy.
  • Soak yourself in oatmeal bath.
  • Apply lacto-calamine or calamine lotion over affected areas.
Drink a lot of water, Dehydration is the worst aggravator in these cases.

Apart from vaccination, in order to prevent these from ever happening and to enjoy a tension-free spring here at few other tips you can follow:
  • Giloy or Tinospora cordifolia an Indian shrub is known and tested to have amazing properties especially in regards of boosting immune system and preventing these diseases from occurring. Once, Spring sets in or preferably right from mid-February, consume a concoction of Giloy leaves and turmeric. They are affective in preventing and fighting any bacterial infection.
  • Neem strain in empty stomach or Neem strain mixed with turmeric and honey before you begin your daily routine can help prevent any bacterial infection and even prevent these ailments from occurring.
  • Covering your hair and mouth while traveling or outdoors especially during season change in congested areas can help a lot. Many people would sneeze and you can't just stop them. And, many would not care to cover their mouths. But, your covering will prevent direct contact with you. And, polluted areas are thriving grounds of bacteria of all sorts. So, you will be able to save yourself, not just from effects of pollution but also prevent occurrences of Spring time diseases.
  • Always take a shower, after you return home. It might feel lethargic at times, but if you do, it will play a great role in keeping you germ-free.
That's all for now. Hope now you are better equipped to handle the situation.
