 1) From the University of Spotlight - National Research University department of Law

The Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore (NUS Law) is one of the premier places for legal research in Asia. It has an active research culture with seven research centres, an intense and diverse array of research events and seminars, and large numbers of eminent researchers visiting it from around the world. 

In 2023, the Law School was ranked 9th and 12th globally by the Times Higher Education and the QS. 

It is offering several fully funded places for its PhD programme starting August 2024. Successful applicants will receive 

  • a monthly stipend of between S$2,200 and S$2,800 per month (please click here for the full list of scholarships available), and 
  • a full tuition fee subsidy for a maximum of four years. 
PhD students who successfully pass the Doctoral Candidate Qualifying Exam will receive an additional monthly stipend of up to S$500 per month. 

We will also provide, in addition, funding for research expenses and conferences up to a maximum of S$8,000 during the period of the programme. Outstanding applicants in any field of law are strongly encouraged to apply.

2) PhD in NUS Business School - August 2024 intake

The school is accepting application for August 2024 intake from 1 May 2023 to 15 December 2023.

Application

To apply for our PhD by research programme, candidates are to submit their applications via the online application portal.

*Important Note:

If you wish to be considered for more than one department, you must submit a separate application. There is no limit to the number of applications you can submit. However, each application must be accompanied by separate application fee payment and supporting documents. 

Unless granted approval by our University, no candidate may concurrently be a student for more than one degree or register as an NUS candidate and of another university/institute.

Application Fee

A S$50 non-refundable application fee (per online application & inclusive of prevailing GST) is payable for our PhD programme.

Submission of Application

When submitting your application via the online Graduate Admission System, you are required to prepare your supporting documents for upload via the online system. The documents to be uploaded to the online system should be in pdf format.

All documents that are not in English must be accompanied by certified true copies of the English translation documents. Omission of required information and documents may render the application void.

Your online application submission should consist of the following documents:

  • Personal Statement: Candidate should describe succinctly your reasons for applying to the programme, your preparation for the field of study, future career plans, and other aspects of your background and interests that may help in the evaluation of your aptitude and motivation for graduate studies. 
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Summary of education and work experience. 
  • A copy of citizenship certificate, identity card, passport, Employment Pass (EP) or documentary proof of permanent residence status in Singapore
  • Certified true copy of degree certificates - Bachelor's/Master's
  • Certified official transcripts - Bachelor's/Master's 
  • GRE or GMAT
  • TOEFL or IELTS
  • All applications will require two recommendation/referee’s reports.
