My heavy bag to school

Hello and welcome back. This is your friend Prabhasini and today we will delve into an interesting phenomenon - the training imparted, right from the time one is a toddler, of carrying load. And this is a very common sight in most streets of India, where young kids carry an overloaded bag on their tender backs, while making way through metros, crowded buses, serpentine auto queues etc. And even critical is the fact that often these bags weigh more than the ability the child can carry. And all these are silently being accepted assuming all these will contribute to the knowledge acquired, to the solid foundation being made.

However, has ever anyone wondered - how at all would a strong pillar stand erect on a decayed backbone. Why has the cases of athritis being reported even in younger ages, which was previously associated with an older age.

Medical science has proven it now, that an overweighted backpack will lead to long term deformation in the backbone. Often it renders the backbone de-shaped for a lifetime. The reports and articles published in leading dailies regarding these issues - establish the fact that being synonymous with the ants for students, by carrying loads more than their backs could carry, yields no good for the student, except for leaving them to lead a life complaining regarding backaches.

And this would mean - a deformity for a lifetime, not just in body, but even in confidence and psychology. With that, how would the knowledge would remain the focus of the person's life.

Knowledge is bound to make a person independent and free. In this case however, knowledge seems to come at a cost of crippling the person. This is indeed ironical and definitely far from liberation.

Hence these are a few tips to keep in mind -

1. Consult the school and make a locker room for keeping books. That way, the weight of bag would be reduced a great deal.

2. If possible, even a canteen with hygenic ammenities and nominal rates should be set up, so that the lunch box doesn't add to bag weight.

3. Talk to school authorities in order to ensure that no more than two subjects are given as assignment or homework in a day. That way the task would be done sincerely and without adding backpack weight due to clashing of submission deadline.

If you have even more ideas we all would love to know them. Do share them @ aamiprabhasini@gmail.com

This much for now. Hope your bagweight reduces after reading this article. Stay tuned for my next articles. Till then - good bye, stay blessed.
