The Great Wake-Up Alarm

Recently, when I was returning from Delhi back to my city of love - Kolkata, by train, a very strange incident took place. Suddenly, at about 8 pm, a sound like beep kept buzzing. With the increase in terror attacks and rail accidents, almost everybody was in a fix. Railway police, mechanic, technician, every expert were called up to locate the source of the sound. And, after about half an hour, the rail employees also planned to call up the bomb-squad of the next station.

And just when they were on the verge of making the call, a child of 7 yrs, revealed that this beep was nothing but the alarm tune set in his mobile, so that he could wind up his studies, and go to sleep, as he had to wake up at 4 every morning.

Every body was awestruck. His parents embarassed. And then, the entire compartment burst into huge roar of laughter. Although, the young chap got a good earful from his parents, but, everyone had a good dose to enliven the boring train journey.

However, have you ever thought, how robotic it seems, that we need this alarm for everything we do. Doesn't our body send signals which too, can indicate the limit of any activity. Why is it that we need and depend so excessively on , these alarms, ignoring our own biological or natural alarm clocks. Isn't that a bit alarming.

Well, for most, maybe including me, not really.

But, as a matter of fact, established by eminent scientists, researchers and personalities, human beings cannot be equated with the mechanisms of a machine. Well, its true that machines and technology can definitely aid us into easing our lives. But, they cannot, and will not be able to overtake upon our natural systems, without a lot of compromises made. And, these compromises might not be completely positive at all.

As quoted in a research by the National Institute of Industrial Health in Japan, instead of waking up after a complete sleep, waking up to the jolting sound of the alarm clock, could be dangerous for your heart. It can be like a slow poison, causing health implications like - higher blood pressure, higher heart rate, and, increased stress levels. These, if not checked, could lead to fatal repercussions later.

So, when poets of the past quoted the beauty of waking up to the magical tune of the chirping of birds, it wasn't just the magic they wished the readers to be attracted to. It was also the health benefits of a complete sleep they wished to attract the readers to.

But, now the question arises : How, to wake up, on our own, without the alarm, and also meet the deadlines without sleeping late.
Well, your friend Prabhasini is here, So no fear, as she has Five Factor tips to help you.

1. The previous day, when you go to sleep, make a complete note of everything accomplished, and all that you plan to do the next day. And make small, reasonably challenging and achievable-within-24-hours plans. As, over-ambitious plans are bound to remain unfulfilled leaving you frustating.

2. Sleep between 10 to 11 pm. For those who have to wake up early, like at 4 or 5, sleep between 9 to 10 pm. That way, by the time you need to wake up, you will have already completed your sleep, and your brain and body will have relaxed enough to let you wake up - on your own.

3. Complete all your gadget jobs atleast an hour before retiring for sleep. It has also been researched and proved that the glare of gadgets does make it difficult for the eyes to settle down, creating difficulties in falling asleep.

4. Exercise and proper diet are essential elements of proper body metabolism, which also contributes to good sleep. If possible, get a steam bath before going to sleep. It induces sleep better and faster.

5. And, most important. A habit once framed gets very difficult to alter, but, its not impossible either. So, if setting up and being in sync with the alarm has grown up as must have habit for you, donot panic. Instead, set up a light alluring soothing music as your alarm tune. That way, the harmful impacts will be lessened a lot.
