India’s Surprisingly high growth rates projected by media does not fuel growth in employment. If economic growth doesn’t increase employment, then what does?
With schemes like – ‘Make in India’, ‘Pradhan Mantri Mudra loan yojna’,
etc. and viral success stories of an actively entrepreneured India, you may be
thinking - If there are so many enterprises everywhere, how do they run without
people. And if they engage people, why is our unemployment rate soaring instead
of declining.
Another fantastic comedy of errors is the report regarding real
unemployment rate of the country. It seems that ministries have made ‘Data’ as
their favourite buzzword. If a good report comes up – opposition accuses it to
be ‘proctored Data’. If a bad report comes up, govt. blames irresponsible
ministers for ‘leaking Data’. And this ‘Unemployment Data’ surveyed over the
same set of sample space, interestingly, yields broadly contradictory result
every time.
This leads a logical Argumentative Indian to ask -
1. What exactly is
India's unemployment rate?
2. If it is not
declining in sync with growth, Why not?
3. May we assume that
all these growths advertised is mere eye-wash and not real.
4. And above all, what
exactly is the political forum trying to achieve with Indian economics in terms
of Youth and Employment.
A recent TOI report showed that unemployment has reached an all-time
high in India. Further, quite surprisingly, it is higher in Urban areas
compared to Rural areas despite that better facilities exist in Urban zone. And
even stranger is the fact that the more trained & educated you are, lesser
the chances you have of employment.
However, it is regularly advertised that people are
not employed because they lack skills and training. Isn’t it ironical?
So, exactly what kind of jobs, if at all are being
generated in India? Is it that youth here lack skills or is it that the jobs
generated require unskilled labour? Increasing number of PhD holders are
applying for Railway group-D jobs, anganwadi workers, ‘jharudar’, ‘toilet
cleaner’, ‘peon’, ‘gardener’, ‘cook’, etc.
It is a grave scenario. The world is increasingly making
progress in advanced applications of technology. While here in India,
newspapers often publish reports and advertisements of govt. boasting the
creation of 6 lakhs sweeper jobs. Can we call this as real development?
And, if we think in terms of entrepreneurship: A Btech
degree holder selling ‘Pakoras’ is often regarded as ‘foodpreneurship’. Think
over this. The word ‘entrepreneur’, has been misused several times here to
disguise under employment. And this mostly happens because the deadly cancer
prevalent in our society – ‘Caste based recruitment’, which caters to the vote
banks.
With widespread poverty and concentration of power
in the hands of few, if India’s population is increasingly forced to
underperform compared to their ability doing odd jobs despite being skilled, Indian
economy is sure to collapse. If India continues to hire Caste and not Merit,
the promises to make India a developed nation will remain a mere New Year
resolution – which are made to be broken. Well, political parties – who are no
less than trained businessmen, will serve their own agenda of remaining in
power. The real question which Young India must ask itself is – With this
current scenario, will India survive to cheer: India! India! In the next World
Cup. And if you do not think so, then what will you do to #MakeAnImpact.
