Hello and welcome back everyone! Your friend Prabhasini wishes you a very Happy New Year ahead. Well, you might be thinking why this New Year wish took so long - being on the 7th of January instead of 1st January. Well, do you know - yesterday the 6th of January was day of "Armenian Christmas" According to an article in the website peopleofar.com:
Most of us greet New Year, with a zeal to be something new, be 31st December the next year. And, some of the common resolutions made include -
“Armenian Christmas,” as it is popularly called, is a culmination of
celebrations of events related to Christ’s Incarnation. Theophany or
Epiphany (or Astvadz-a-haytnootyoon in Armenian) means “revelation of
God,” which is the central theme of the Christmas Season in the Armenian
Church. During the “Armenian Christmas” season, the major events that
are celebrated are the Nativity of Christ in Bethlehem and His Baptism
in the River Jordan. The day of this major feast in the Armenian Church
is January 6th. A ceremony called “Blessing of Water” is conducted in
the Armenian Church to commemorate Christ’s Baptism.
And, I happened to have a tourist friend from Armenia, who had somehow lost her way in the streets of Kolkata, and I helped her out and that was how I came to know about her. And, she told me about a place in the Burrabazar area of Kolkata- The Armenian Church, which was what she was searching for.. And, that is how I came to know about the importance of this date - the 6th of January. So, I thought why not greet my readers differently, on New year on a different date...
Moreover, as you all remember - there was this Christmas Competition organized, during the month of December. It also took me sometime to evaluate your valuable responses, in order to zero on the best ones to feature. And, from today, I begin featuring - beginning with the most important ingredient of the New Year Celebration -
The New Year resolution.
Lights - set
Dinner - set
Dj - set
Party - set
Resolution - set for now to be broken maybe!
1. Loosing weight and getting and staying in shape ( one of the most popular resolution )
2. Getting a better job or getting a job
3. Learning a new skill
4. Changing habits
5. Being better ( atleast than my friend )
6. No stress no tension
As of now, most of you would have already
made your resolutions. If you are sticking to your resolutions, it's great.
However, after the party is over, a few days are passed we either
struggle to keep the resolution alive or tend to have 101 exclusive
excuses to avoid them. Many actually fall back, yet again, from achieving their goal.
And, finally, 31st arrives again, and we remain just where we begun on our resolution chart. And, the most shocking of all - we spend huge amount of our time and data reading articles on how to keep up our resolutions, and finally conclude - resolutions are made to be broken.
But, do we really appreciate when a friend promises something to us, in a bid to be sure of breaking it sometime later. We do not. The same actually applies to our bodies and mind as well, because we agree or not, realize or not, we ourselves are our best friend. And so, we somehow really disregard this fact of not being able to keep up what we promise to the most precious beings on this planet - we ourselves. But, how do we wire ourselves to do what is intended, while it is human nature to break rules.
Well, keeping a promise is not that difficult if we are really committed to something. And, the same holds true for us as well. Here are a few tested and implemented techniques to help you stay put on your resolution track:
1. Never panic to give up stress - If your agenda is to be more composed and calmer this year, you would not be practically able to turn of the switch of tension inducing hormones at one go. It would take sometime before you would be able to control yourself. So, bouts of tensed behaviors would still continue, beyond your resolution. Do not panic. Yet, everytime you get tensed, think what could have been done better. Improvise, yet next time. But, remember to strive to handle things better by simply remembering your resolution, not the fact that you are stressed. That will surely help you.
2. Your belly fat wouldn't vanish in a day - neither will you go down to size 0 from size 2 or 3 in a week or month or a quarter of a year. This drastic pulling down of weight after periods of fluffiness isn't pretty healthy either. Moreover, how much you would pull down, also depends upon your metabolism and also your mental well being. So, even if you put yourself on a diet, allow your mind and mood to be happy with occasional treats of pastries and chocolates. Of course you could make a healthy choice here. Have dark chocolates instead of regular ones, or chocolates with high amounts of cocoa. This would induce antioxidants making you glow, rather than being a burden on your calorie count. Be creative and flexible. And, never be disheartened by someone else's progress. Have your own pace of life.
3. Be creative in your approach - Gymming everyday or walking everyday or an exercise for half an hour at a scheduled time may be flaunting your routine. So, instead of resolving them only to be let down with a frown, promise yourself a sweat session rather, where - you would make sure to sweat out, by whatever you do. It could be brisk walking while cross checking your files or notes or reading, or rhythmic movements while doing your daily chores, taking the stairs or long-cuts to set your feet into action, taking your cycle to school college or work - it can be anything. We are all too engaged to fit in anything new. But, we are also creative to twist our actions and engage in something new.
4. Never compare with anyone else. - as it the prime demoralizing agent in maximum cases. Your life and your friend's life can never be a carbon-copy of each other. Neither are your choices. So, set about on a voyage of your own, instead of limiting your self to benchmarks set against your friend's. Liberate yourself. And explore and enjoy. You are sure to succeed.
5. New skills are like new neighbors - You wouldn't get to know them in a day, neither will it be a thoroughly smooth ride. It would have periods of difficulties, while other lessons would be easier.
By keeping these simple tips in mind, you would be able to embrace the new year resolution perfectly in your life. May be, your life changes even beyond the way you had imagined it.
Come what may, always be prepared for whatever comes your way.
