Hello everybody. So, your diaries have been marked for the great dreadful date which you always try to avoid, yet your parents love to attend - the great Parent's meet at school. In case, you know, you are the topper - the apple of the eye of everyone - great in extra-curricular too, you would boastfully bring in your parents to school. But, even the most supremely fair student has this fear - fear of any derogatory comments which could ruin the impression of his / hers in front of their parents, resulting into, say, cancelling of the much awaited shopping in the evening. Oh boy! its so dangerous right.
Well, its not quite so. And, although I'm the friend of every student, I would say, please request your parents as well, to read this blog...
For the students....
First thing, remember, this is a day, where your performance would be discussed. It's not any gaming arena, wherein, everyone is in extreme urge to belittle you to win, least criticizing zone.Hence, even if the comments don't seem to be like an ice-candy, instead they are like a bitter-gourd juice, gobble that up. A little bit of that juice could be a life-long tonic for a successful life of yours, instead, a candy crush now might give you a teeth-full of cavity. And I guess, you are smart enough to decide, which is better..
Second, we are not bothered much about our own reviews, but, much traumatized regarding our impression management. Well, take these two fundamental rules as lessons of your life -
a. The friend who abides by your calibre and not you is to be discarded right now, like an used tissue paper.
b. Its your school, not a ramp show. And, to be picture perfect in a ramp show, you need a critical assessment of your strengths and weaknesses.
Its your life. And, even the best student might be imperfect in some sense or the other. You don't have to compete with anybody. Its your performance, your scores, your feedback. No comparisons at all. And if you do-not end up receiving the prime praises, it absolutely doesn't matter. Life is huge. And, to live it large, you need to grow. And a contended person can never keep learning.
For parents...
Please remember, everybody is unique. No-one can mimic any body else's abilities. It may happen that your child is not amongst the top rankers in any of the set parameters of the school curricula. But, just because of it, please donot let down your child. Everyone has an ability which is really his / her specialty. Encourage them, to not be disheartened by anything, yet figure that particular thing, which he / she is made for.
A child doesn't look into mark sheets to understand success or failure. He / She looks for it in your eyes. Hence, if you are steady, you handle even the negative comments sportingly, your child will follow suit. This will prepare them for their great lives ahead. Life is never a bed of roses. And this small gesture will teach them to accept even failures, and maybe even convert failures into grand opportunities never thought of. Yet, this will not happen, if you do not pave the way.
So, its a request, please donot rebuke your child to the extent that he / she begins loosing their self esteem. A good grade is necessary, but never the only yardstick of success. A lot of entrepreneurs who have set a new wave in the society, are nothing but college drop-outs chasing their passion.
As parents, you wish the best for your child. And its really true. But, make sure your child understands this too. And often, children can be correct in certain aspects as well. Also try to analyze their point of view. Please do not be in a rush, atleast in the case of the most precious jewels of your life- you children.
