Hello and Welcome back. Recently when I was in Serbia, I heard many people exclaim that Indians love trains. Indeed we do. From being the connector of freedom fighters to being the backbone of the early industrial developments in India, our Indian railways have a long legacy and several epic stories to pass on to several generations.
And, our love for trains have been immortalised by popular Bollywood sagas, time and again like - DDLJ and Chennai express. Being in train is like a magical journey, where one can expect the unexpected to come.
So, why not show-off our love for trains and give it a makeover this Diwali. Well, this is probably what the railway authorities might have thought. And the result - the launch of T18, the most technically advanced train in India.
What are it's features and why is it so special? Which stations will it connect? Read on to find out …
T18 - one of its kind is the first ever engine-less train in India. With a speed of 160 km/hr, it is going to give a tough competition to the airlines industry which is already struggling with dismal revenue. A successor of Shatabdi, it had it's debut launch on 29th of October on the tracks of Chennai. With it's speed, it is estimated to reduce the travel time by over 15%, once the tracks are fitted to suit it.
It has full-AC cabins, and the passengers will get the feel of traveling in a flight or European trains, while enjoying an on-board infotainment system with Wi-Fi. It has vacuum toilets and sliding doors - which will open and shut based upon sensing people or objects, thus eliminating the need to pull the doors with all your might while carrying your luggage in and out of the coach. Besides it has a GPS-based passenger information system - which eliminates the fear of missing out the station or the need to ask passengers, apps or peeking out of the door to find out the name of the station. Instead, the LCD screen will display vital info. regarding the speed of the train, the station to come and expected time of arrival at the destination. Also, the lights near the LCD will indicate when the washroom is occupied or vacant, so, it will not be required for one to crowd, queue or stand near the toilet, irritated.
There are CCTV cameras inside the cabin, thus, safety feature enhanced by monitoring.
Out of a total 16 coach, two are executive. The executive cabins have 52 seats each while the trailing coaches have 78. There is a unique feature in the seats of executive coach - one can rotate the seat 360 degree. So, if you wish to enjoy the view outside, without straining your neck - you can do so, easily. Also, the seats have reclining option just like flights, so one can easily sleep and relax, if they wish to.
Also, the inter-coach connectivity is so designed that one can travel in-between coaches very easily, without fearing of getting hurt while crossing over the gaps and joints in between, especially in a moving train.
There are food trays in front of the seats, pockets to keep bottles, places to securely store luggage during your journey, and mobile charging points beneath the arm rest - thus making your phone nearer to you, instead of having to rise up again-and-again, making way through fellow passengers to reach the charging port.
Another interesting feature for the curious mind is that the cabins are so designed that one can have a peek into the drivers room. So, if you have always wandered what does the driver do to pull the entire train forward and whether he is just like the pilot to a flight, you can have a look for yourself.
This train will soon connect all major metro cities, completely replacing Shatabdi.
Stay tuned, for more such updates, and do book yourself a ride on this train to get a feel of this amazing new train - exclusively Made in India.
