Hello and welcome back everybody. Your friend Prabhasini, is back again. And this time, I am going to share with you - a phenomenon, embedded in the daily life of students - going to school or college.
We wake up early, throughout our lives, brush our teeth, have shower, have our breakfast, and get dressed in neat dresses or uniform. Thus, we get set to begin a new eventful day of our life. A day of learning, a day of excitement, a day of fun, and what not. And then, we go about to our respective mode of commute, by which we would reach our respective destination.
But, have you ever thought, how much time do we spend in the buses, metros, pool-cars, autos or whatever we choose, for going and coming back. Well, if I go by my collected data from most of the schools across Kolkata, a bit of research that I do for you readers, an average student spends about 3-to-4 hours everyday, traveling. And, this is the figure in a normal situation. In case any disruption occurs, like - dysfunction of metros, traffic jams, breakdown of vehicle, parades of protest, this time increases. How long - well, it is beyond our control to estimate.
If I use a bit of arithmetic here, almost every school runs 5 days a week, with a half day or holiday on Saturday. Leaving that, if we take into account the rest of the 5 days, then,
4 (number of travel hours) * 5 (number of days one goes to school or college) = 20 hours every week
Well, in 20 hours of your life, you can start a business from scratch. In 20 hours of your life, you can pave a revolution. You can create a viral video for your youtube channel. You can strike upon a breakthrough idea.
But, is this what happens, in these 20 hours. No. Rather, what is disturbing is that - often students geared with tech-savvy gadgets, do not even live to see the next 20 hours in the following week. Well, the most common scene is something like this -
a. students absorbed in there mobile, mostly in Facebook, usually prying over someone else profile.
b. engaged in the most popular PNPC (or talking bad behind the back)
c. deciding about the rush to the tutorial home, in a tightly packed schedule.
d. headphones popped in ears, unaware of whatever is happening around
Well, mobile and internet, according to me, are the best friends anybody can have in the 21st century, with unmatched reserves of almost everything, and connecting the entire world to share and learn.
But, how would someone learn, if we do not come out of our obsessed parts. If we cease to observe, how would we spark our imagination. If all we hover is over the profile of our friend, our crush, our rival, how would we connect with the entire world, which is the real motto of internet technology. And, the most pathetic of all - is the boredom which seems to engulf us in these hours spent idle.
But then, whenever there is any problem, there is always a solution to it. Atleast, you will not be bored in your next journey to school. Here are the things that you can do -
1. Try making games with your fellow passengers on board, instead of playing the age old games. If you happen to like them, try implementing a twist. This will surely boost your creative thinking.
2. Reading in a moving bus or car is really not appropriate for the eyes. But, one can read in metros. So, take your novel or magazines with you. You would have a great time.
3. For a while, take this opportunity to get off the digital world, and connect with the real world. Observe. In case there are cartoonists among my readers, you will definitely understand, why I say thus. Further, if you are searching your next plot for school or college theater, the streets the best place to derive ideas from.
4. Anybody love knitting? Well, if you do, go ahead and take your knitting sticks with you. Get a seat for yourself, and start off. You might have a great veil in a week.
Well, that's all for today. Stay tuned for my next posts. Would also love to connect and learn from you. You can follow me on twitter @PranWin or send email to aamiprabhasini@gmail.com
